Born Donald John Trump
June 14, 1946 (age 69)
Queens, New York City
It's not Mr. Trump's citizenship that's being questioned, rather, until last nights debates, it was Ted Cruz, who was born in Canada but whose mother is a U.S. citizen (undeniably).
Clanad - as your'e the only American that i'm aware of on here and you being a republican ( apologies if your'e not ) .

What do you think of Donald Trump - do you think it would be a good thing for the country if he won the nomination and became president , even ?
I think perhaps the question should be "Was Donald Trump born?". He behaves more like an alien than a human being.
Offspring of US citizens who are born abroad are themselves US citizens, and eligible for the President job.

Cruz popped out in Canada to US parents, so there is no problem with him running.

Trump's grandparents were immigrants from Germany (though in his book, he lied and said they were Swedish). His mother was born in Scotland. But he was born in New York so is also eligible for the job.
Interesting question, Bazile... at this point (and I am a Republican {capital "R"}) I think the interest in Trump's candidacy revolves around an overwhelming dislike and distrust of the current governing body. By that I mean, there exists, in both Party's, an elite group of professional politicians whose entire lives are devoted to one thing and that's remaining in office. Historically, the House of Representatives as well as the much later structured U.S. Senate were meant to bequote[citizen] politicians remaining in office for just one term... two or three at most.

So, what we're seeing this time around (the National Election is next November) is attraction to those that are anti-establishment... embodied by the rhetoric and personality of Donald Trump.

Every time a politician forecasts Mr. Trump's falling in the polls, his popularity goes up another notch or two, regardless of what he actually says. This is due to his ability to communicate with the commoner (even though his own wealth is measured in the billions of dollars) and his spitting in the eye of those in power.

I like some of the things I hear from him, but am reserving judgment until the voting occurs for the nominee (each State has a preliminary nominee election. Two of those will occur within the next few weeks).
Clanad...as a self-confessed Republican, you must be pulling your hair out !

He is single-handedly bringing the Party into disrepute. What the Party needs now, just a few months away from people going into the Polling booths, is not another Loony Tune, but someone nice and normal.
Apparently. in Iowa (a caucus base) and first off the blocks, DJT isn't doing too well - could be the crack needed in his campaign. Not that I am a Cruz fan either.....

As long as the commoner agrees with him! He was extremely rude to the chap who refused to sell his land for his golf course in Scotland.

Sorry I meant to highlight this part!
