The UK wouldn't be the country it is today without Spam and Marguerite Patten ! :-)
How true Retrocop. My Auntie used to Fry it as a substitute for bacon. I thought, ugghhhh, but when tasted, I was pleasantly surprised!
I've never tried spam. I did try corned beef once...

I used to eat spam as a child, wouldn't touch the vile stuff now, corned beef is actually quite nice, a very different league I think.
Ah yes. Bully Beef. Another staple and wartime favourite austerity food from Margerite Patten and the US. Corned beef hash..Very tasty with a fried egg on top.
The GIs called it "*** on a shingle "when it was served up on toast in their mess halls. :-)
The starred out word above began with S and ended with T and rhymed with wit which is sometimes lacking here.
I wonder why I was never fed meat from a tin.
Slightly off topic, but as a kid I loved the taste of powdered eggs.

The use of the word 'Spam' to mean unwanted electronic messages was started by the famous Monty Python 'Spam' sketch , so the joke is somewhat back to front.
Real Spam is actually quite nice but there are too many cheap imitations that get lumped in with the real thing. Great in Spam fritters in batter !

Powdered egg is actually very common, you go to any fast food outlet and get scrambled egg and it is very fine lumps..... Powdered.

The Care home I work in was even recommended to use powdered by Environmental Health, thankfully such advice was not taken on board.

Wouldn't eat the stuff now, but partial to a bit of corned beef now and then. I remember my father saying he wouldn't eat that rat meat! ( Spam) :)
SPAM is almost the National dish of South Korea. It is a throwback to the Korean war when the starving civilians used to beg outside the US bases and were given spam, hotdogs and corned beef. It is called "Army Base Stew" and very tasty it is. I have cooked it.
