I have just been informed that my company car is due for renewal, however our business process has changed from outright purchase to leasing. If I want the same level of vehicle I have currently got then I now have to make an upfron capital contribution of around £3-£5k. I have not been consulted on this, can the company impose this on me?

They will be giving notice of the change. I think that may be all they need to do.

Was the car given to help you do your job or was it a perk-? Was it given in lieu of some salary or in addition to your salary.

Is there a union involved?

I haven't had any notice of the change, I have just been told to order my car within the next 6 weeks but can't afford to pay and need a big car! The car is a perk.
Well maybe the 6 weeks is considered to be the notice period.
But if you say you haven't got any money they can't force you to buy one. Will they give you extra salry in lieu of a car?
On the positive side, at least your tax bill will fall by a few thousand pounds a year.
Is there a union?
Are you sure you aren't in a salary sacrifice scheme? Some 'perk' cars are given on that basis. If so, your pay would increase once the car is relinquished.

There is a union but I am not a member, and I haven't been made aware of any salary sacrifice scheme
Okay, i know they are withdrawing your company car.
What I'm not sure about is whether they are:
A) Insisting you get a new one on their lease scheme and pay the upfront payment, or
b) simply saying if you want a new car you can get it via us but if you dow ant it via us you need to pay so much up front

And would you have to pay the monthly lease payments or would teh company make the payments.

You need to check also whether the company is going to compensate you in some way.
I noticed buildersmate was on AB tonight so hopefully he'll see this query as it's something he may be able to advise on
Hi claire- if you are still looking for help on this, have you had chance to consider the queries I raised above? Thanks
