'Ability' - The Knack'
'Hide, Pretend' was Masquerade!
'Issue' - The Offspring
'Upper end of this plant' - Chicory Tip

Hi svejk- not sure what you are trying to say about me and Chicory Tip- I did like them 40 odd years ago (Good Grief Christina and Son of My Father is all I remember).
Thanks for the answers- we were right with them all (including Chicory Tip!) except for Masquerade.
Masquerade? A bit obscure weren't they?
