Netgear router in same room as laptops. Wireless link is often dropped and then router not seen unless you try 3 or 4 times to reconnect. Wireless networks in vicinity, all weaker signals, still show. Network is secure. Does anyone else have this problem and if so can it be solved?

Wireless signals are affected by the environment, I got called out to a house where he had poor wireless connectivity, he had spent ages on help lines etc before calling us out.

All that was required was to lift the router up off the floor, this vastly improved his wireless signal.

Also, try changing the channel the router is transmitting on, most default to 11, you say that there are other networks in the vicinity, chances are they are using the same channel as yours.

See what channels the other networks are on, as mattie says, and change your router's channel to be the number furthest away from the other channels that are being used.

If that doesn't help much, try dropping the router down from "g" mode that it's probably on, to "b" mode. If you just use the router for the internet, you probably won't notice any drop in speed at all. Ad hoc networks may be slowed however.
