If you download a programme, can you watch it later than the 30 day limit?

If not does it self delete, or remain on your computer but refuse to play?

You can only watch iPlayer downloads via the BBC's own dedicated player (and not, for instance, with Windows Media Player). That program examines code in the downloaded file which tell it whether the file is still 'in date'. If it isn't, then it can't be played.

As far as I'm aware, the program also marks the file as 'deleted' in a the same way that deleting a file via Windows Explorer does. (i.e. it's still there on your hard drive but the space is made available to Windows to over-write at any time).

You will get a message on your iPlayer download screen that tells you the programme is no longer available.

but choux does that mean no longer available to download, surely if you have already downloaded a programme to for instance my Sky+ hard drive it is there for me to play whenever I choose.

It means that you can neither download nor watch the programme.

But as already pointed out, you can only play it with iPlayer, and it can tell if the programme is "past its sell-by date"
