Anybody else feel that the story is built on preposterous coincidences? Pierre bumbles along to the battle of Borodino, bumps into the man who slept with his wife and whom he injured in a duel; then finds Andrei (James Norton) who invites him to stay for the battle (which, amazingly, he survives while everyone else is being blown up around him) and when Andrei gets injured he (Andrei) ends up on a treatment table next to the man who had had an affair with his fiancee! Just not credible, I'm afraid

It happens all the time in soaps!

Of such scenarios are dramas constructed - you have to allow for what is called poetic licence, for the plot to work.

I remember Will Smith in Independence Day, finding his wife by driving one way down a freeway, while the population of Los Angeles drove the other, and thinking - how does that work? I can't find my wife in Sainsbury's on a Saturday afternoon!!

I am just starting to watch Episode 1, such foul weather, and I can't believe the frock a blonde woman is almost wearing in the first scene, looks more like the Oscar red carpet type.

Zebo, if you've just started watching it, you'll have a chance to see (as I've mentioned on AB before) how much James Norton, with his hair and eyebrows darkened, looks like Gary Glitter!

I think it was even more far fetched than that, was he not in a helicopter?

Up to that point it had been a reasonable sci-fi film, after that scene it just got silly.

In fact at the end the President is holding his young daughter, with a big smile on his face. But I seem to remember his wife had been killed earlier in the film, but that was all forgotten in the "happy" ending (which most Americans films seem to have).

I know it is a dramatisation of the book so do these things not occur on it's pages?
