Kid's Tv Programme With A Girl On An Island

Does anyone remember a kids programme, probably mid 80s, about a little girl who lived on her own on a sort of island, a boy used to visit her by boat, the girl had family that occasionally appeared and they all had crystal names, I think they may have been gypsies? This has been driving me mad for days, I can't think what it was called, and web searching my vague description finds nothing! Help!

it brings to mind ocean odyssey an ozzy kids programme (apparently called ocean girl over there) it was on in the 90's though so might be too late for when you are thinking. but is was about a girl living alone on an island

its not Ocean Girl, probably 10 years older than that - It wasn't like a desert island. More like a hidden island among overhanging trees, like the Everglades! She was there alone, but I think family came by occasionally, and they all had crystal names, like I think there was a boy called Malachite, and she had a white horse.
