dropped kerb restrictions

I have a nutty neighbour who swears blind that it is illegal to even drop off someone outside her house, as she has a dropped kerb. Parking is terrible & there is single lane traffick on a blind bend, but she takes down reg numbers, even if you have to pull in to let another car pass!!! Shes driving everyone mad. I stated that a dropped kerb doesnt entitle you to ownership of the space unless you have a solid while line painted in front of it. Other than that you just have to rely on the courtesy of drivers. Am i right?

You certainly do have a 'nutty neighbour'.
Try to ignore her . . . . as difficult as that may be.
Don't get into a discussion with her as that is the long road to nowhere.
As for her collection of registration numbers, that in itself is just a waste of her time.
If she tells you that what you are doing is wrong just ask her to provide you with proof.
If there was any merit in her claims she would have been able to get police intervention.
She has no case (unless someone is actually parking in front of the dropped kerb and obstructing her access/egress).
You must exercise restraint and totally ignore her.
Bullies don't like that, but will probably get fed up before you do.

tell her to speak to the council and/or police. They will confirm that you are right. As long as you dont park infornt of her kerb, and are just dropping or collecting people, then she has no reason to moan.

It�s a shame you have a difficult neighbor. I too have endured years of difficulties because of mine's nasty behavior. I actually danced when I saw them carrying her coffin up her garden path.
Now I miss her, as the new lot have none stop barking dogs, and attitude.
Confrontation? Not wise, as she will carry a grudge against you forever. Ignore her? Not as easy as it sounds. How about downloading a copy of the highways act relevent to your predicament, and posting it to her anonymously? Cowards way? Anything for a quite life... good luck.

Quite a few neigbourhoods have managed to have ASBOs served on people like the one you describe, it only takes a few of you to get one of these.

The dropped kerb has no significance in law, but parking in front of a driveway can be an illegal obstruction. The laws of obstruction are very complex, but now the courts insist on knowing who was obstructed and for how long. They then decide whether the obstruction was unreasonable. Stopping to drop off a passenger is not unreasonable. Indeed this is one of the exceptions written into parking regulations. As has been said above, ask her the act and section of the law that she is quoting.

it's is only against the law to stop someone exiting their property, not entering.so unless you are in the way of her car getting out tell her to take up train spotting. they have numbers as well and she'll also get to meet interesting people!

A dropped down kerb just means that it is illegal to park or obstruct the owners driveway.

Markja is correct. We live next door to a pub and have a dropped kerb in front of our garage gates and it is soooooo annoying when we can't get into our garage. But it is only obstruction if we can't get out!! Wouldn't be so bad except that the pub has a carpark at the back that hardly anyone uses!!
