Hi, I want to move to another city and unfortunately I lost my job and am claiming Jobseekers Allowance & Housing Benefit. We need to find a landlord who takes Housing Benefit. Whatr order do we do things? Do we have to find a house first before we sign off benefits in the city we are now, or can the job centre transfer all our papers to the new city so we don't have to sign off as it is so much hassle? Is it also better to stay in a hostel in the city we want to move to, to have a look around the areas and for housing? I hope you can all help me? Thanks so much in advance.

You have to have an address for benefits to be paid
Go to this link: http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/index/information-and-services/money-tax-and-benefits/benefits-and-financial-support/beginners-guide-to-benefits/ and then click on the link in column 2 - Changes that affect your benefit. You have to provide your new address as TWR said. Best to ask for advice at your current benefits office about transferring your JAS etc. Search online for agencies in the city you want to move to for homes where landlords will accept tenants on Housing Benefit.
That's a link to the law in Northern Ireland. It may be the same in the rest of the UK on this issue, but you can't just assume it is - that's why Northern Ireland has it's own Gov.uk type website - the laws vary.
