that was the defence to the charge - being under 24 and the girl 15

but he then copped the indecent assault charge for which there was no defence

[ I think it may have gone the way of the world ]
There are many 14 and 15 year old girls having sex with their slightly older boyfriends but very few boys get charged for it, unless there is evidence of grooming, rape and so on.

In the boyfriend/girlfriend scenario it is very rare for anyone to be prosecuted.
jno,/with a one-year age difference like that/
It could be a 1 day age difference.
could be, if one was 16 and the other 15 and 364 days. But I think the law would be reluctant to get involved.

i been digging and found the uk Sexual Offences Act 2003

Under the new law, the legal age for young people to consent to have sex is still 16,
whether they are straight, gay or bisexual.
The aim of the law is to protect the rights and interests of young people, and make it
easier to prosecute people who pressure or force others into having sex they don’t want.
Although the age of consent remains at 16, the law is not intended to prosecute
mutually agreed teenage sexual activity between two young people of a similar age,
unless it involves abuse or exploitation.
