I have just been reading the papers today, To my distress, There was 3 stories about animals being ill treated. the first was a dog being straved a put out on the pavement dead, Second was a cat was injured his owners left to late, then when the took it to the vets it lost his leg. Third, a couple kept 10 dogs in a small van, thats where they lived. Our country just banned them from having pets again, I mean are they gonna keep tabs on them? Think Not, It just makes me fell sick, Our country sinks!!!

The animals brought to the attention of the media are the lucky ones - for every owner prosecuted, tens of owners get away with abusing and mistreating their animals.
Hi Bottom,
The problem you speak of is not only in the UK or Europe. It exists worldwide. I live in the US and spent 4 months in Peru where I travelled to Ecuador as well. In many countries people think nothing of fighting dogs and birds with terrible suffering inflicted on the animals. They stab bulls with sharp impliments in a ring and call the human a hero. In Spain they run bulls through the city where they are frightened out of their minds and slip and slide all over the place and injure themselves. It's so very sad to see animals suffer for the entertainment of humans.
Here in the US there is a tv program about 'Animal Cops' in several large cities. They work for organizations similar to the RSPCA. You would cry to see what some people do to animals, either through ingorance of out and out cruelty.
I volunteer with an organization called Alley Animals in Baltimore, Maryland. We drive the alleys of the city at night and feed and rescue cats and dogs. I get nightmares sometimes when I sleep and often cry just thinking of some of the cruelty I have seen. I try to give comfort to as many animals as I can. It warms my heart just to read the responses of those here and know that so many people are compassionate towards animals.
