Just a fun survey. Not sure what you all call it but up in Scotland we call it dig money.

In England the term is board.

How much do they pay workers on Time Team ( money for the dig or dig money ) peanuts actually - not even a living wage.
The students have to do a bit for their degrees
lower even than food preparation or the rag trade ( no O levels needed)



It's what young people pay their parents for their keep once they start earning.
My mum agreed not to take dig money if I agreed to save the money and so that I could afford leave home (and take that bl00dee dog she added).

That was about 1984/1985. We left in 1986.


I paid my Mum 'my keep' which she saved up and paid for my wedding, late 60' early 70's
Always used to refer to it as digs ( a place to stay ) dig money when I was working away from home.
None! My kids are my pleasure, not my living.
My parents took 50% of my earnings that I resented & soon left home.
My parents took none
and then said if any one asks can you say £7 a week ( 1968 ) ?

because everyone else did including the professionals .....

Their comment was this was unheard of in India and South Africa.....( in the twenties and thirtes - god almost 100 y ago ! )
