My daughter has just had her first pregnancy confirmed - woop, woop! They've taken her bloods and she's type D rh negative. I thought there were only 4 blood groups and never heard of type D - can anyone give me any info on this in simple persons language!

Im going to assume they mean she is RH D Negative as the 4 blood types are A, B, AB and O

Have a read here: http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Blood-groups/pages/introduction.aspx
See Pregnancy section.
this is not a too bad article on rhesus negative and pregnancy
it doesnt go into horrific detail ...

http://americanpregnancy.org/pregnancy-complications/rh-factor/

the short thing is that having a rhesus baby at the first pregnancy is very uncommon but things still have to be done to prevent it happening for the second and other pregnancies
