Have developed hammer toe.,next to little one & maybe starting in next to big one. does anyone know of anything that can be done to help, before resorting to surgery.....also are there any suitable wide shoes that do not look really old fashioned.

you need to get advice from a podiatrist about prevention.. .either privately or through your doc. Hotter have nice shoes, although they don’t do as many wide styles as they used to. marks and spencer do wide fit shoes...just search for wide shoes... really it depends how wide you need them. Hotter have nice shoes, although they don’t do as many wide styles as they used to. marks and spencer do wide fit shoes...just search for wide shoes...really it depends how wide you need them. My feet are pretty much rectangular. I wear crocs around the house and Hotter, marks or Birkies for going out. I have also got a pair of purple biker style Doc Martins that are blissfully wide and confortable.
I was born with hammer toes and by the age of 13 had to have an operation on them where they straighten the bones. That was 60yrs ago and had no problems with them since. I buy wider shoes from BRANTANO they have lovely ones . I think an operation is the only cure and the toes get worse over time , i was walking on my toenails when they did mine
