It would make more sense to abolish the TV licence and replace it with a "media" licence or somesuch.
People complain about the was the BBC is funded, but it is actually a very democratic way off funding broadcasting. Better than a straight tax.
One look at Mr Whittingdale though is enough to turn your stomach. It is thanks to his govt's disgraceful policy of making the BBC pay for the government's free licences for over 75s that will be largely responsible for the major shortfall in BBC funding over the next few years.
As a Brexitter he is supposedly a supporter of "Britain" and its "sovereignty" and yet would I am sure be prepared to see one of Brtain's greatest assets dissolved. Most odd.
