Would they get drawn into the story like less knowledgeable members of the audience or would they always have an eye for lighting, camera work, and other technical aspects?

The word, as far as I can tell, covers people who are simply film fanatics i.e. They don't HAVE to be obsessed with how a film is made. So I don't think there's going to be a definitive answer.

There used to be a film club in the Majestic on Saturday mornings for kids. I was a regular and rarely missed it. I was a junior cineast and never knew it. :-)
Do go to cinema and don't watch film on telly as I think they are made purely for money does that make a cynic
