Biting Polecat

Can anyone give me any advice on how to stop a baby Polecat (thankgod) Biting they are only little teeth at the mo so there not too painful, We only got her tonight and she is 8 1/2 weeks old, Going to buy some Lemon tomorrow to put on hands as they aparently dont like it,

we were told to smack her on the nose!!! i thought if you smacked an animal for something wrong they become worse with hand shy...i wouldnt smack her anyway...i am scruffing her though when she does it she is just little and curious i think i would know if she ment it

We had a polecat and a ferret,the polecat was a b*gger,the ferret(austin) was placid as you like but the polecat(kane) bbrrrr,apparently polecats are tougher to train and can be headstrong,you must stay on top of them,we were told to tap the nose and handle him ALL the time,despite this he killed the ferret and our yorkie thought he'd sniff the run,polecat got him and clamped on to his tongue,only let go when the tongue ripped through,cos when they clamp they DO NOT let go,dog was fine had his tongue stitched,sorry not trying to put you off just make sure you stay on top of her,maybe ours was just a bad 'un,i send you lots of luck!!!

I have a polecat ferret as well as an albino and a cinamon ferrets all Jills, they have all been a bit nippy when younger but they do just grow out if it as they get older just keep handleng your little fluffy and it should stop, but if it does get hold of you then just don't react as Zara has said they clamp on but only when you react so if you just don't move until it lets go it will soon work out that there is no point in biteing, you can by all means tell her off just like dogs they know when you are not happy with them. Don't forget to get her spayed when shes a bit bigger other wise when she goes into season unless mated the season will not stop and this could make her very ill with Aplastic aneamia you can get an injection from the vet to take her out of season but if you keep doing this she could end up with a womb infection (piametra) if your in the UK spaying useually costs around �50 about the same as a cat hope this helps let us know how you get on :-)
