Brita Water Filter Cartridge Usage?

I'm a recent convert to the Brita Marella water filter jug. To those of you who use these, I was wondering if you all stick to the 4 week cartridge guidelines, or do you eke it out for a longer period? I am the only one using my filter jug and reached the rationale that I would maybe get 6-8 weeks out if it since I'm only using it less than half the amount an average sized household is? My rationale could be completely wrong mind you! Advice please?

My kettle has a water filter. I tend not to notice the display flashing until about twice the time it should have been used. I have no idea how much that effects efficiency or if it causes other issues; but I've not noticed any.

The only answer is to try it and see at what point your kettle starts to fur up. I have got a tap with a filter thingy and find I can overrun by about a month. The filter is designed to last for three months.

We live in a very hard water area, and are a house of prolific tea drinkers.

The kettle starts furring up again a couple of weeks after the filter is changed, and I probably change it every three and a half to four weeks.

Soft water area and old style, cylindrical Brita filters: Have run them for up to two months but I really notice the improved tea flavour after changing to a new one. Also, I know it is overdue for change because, if I use the same mug all day, the sides build up a coating.

For what it's worth, the kettle never furs up, no matter how tired the filter might get.

Have the exact same Brita filter jug and live in a hard water area in southern England.

Have found that the filter never exhausts it's working ability before the 4 weeks max. recommended period expires, for the volume of water we put through it. We use of for all cold drinking water plus all water that goes into the kettle. As you probably know, the filter jug detects when water is being filtered (the 'raindrop' symbol in the display) and it counts up the total time that filtration has being used. It also 'counts' weeks, and displays the change symbol after four weeks have elapsed.

Brita seem to propose a recommended four weeks maximum for cleaniless reasons, but you can always remove the filter unit, clean the jug and replace the same filter (without resetting the display).

I generally change it after 6-7 weeks.
