Best Book On The Industrial Revolution

I'm taking an American history class and a chunk of it focuses on the Industrial Revolution. I've got the textbook, but our professor wants us to write an essay on the topic and we need to choose our own book.

Any suggestions on a decent book on the subject?

I assume that, despite it being American history, you're seeking a book on the (original) Industrial Revolution, which occurred largely in Britain, rather than on the later period of industrial progress in the USA, which is sometimes referred to as the Second (or American) Industrial Revolution.
