My wifes father died and didnt appear to leave a will. Is there anyone that can be contacted to check? Also he is still married, but has been separated for over 3 years, will estate etc revert to wife? There are 4 children.

Have you checked with your father-in-laws solicitors and bank? They may be holding copies of a will.

Dying intestate is messy and I'm afraid your wife's situation illustrates why. Apart from taking longer to release the assets, they may also have to be split amongst everyone who has a claim unless someone waives their rights. The link above takes you to a flowchart to work out who will get the assets.

Good luck.
