I have recently got a Samsung Galaxy S3 with wi-fi, but it also adds all my Facebook and other notifications whenever they come in, and if I haven't got access deducts it automatically from my tiny paid data allowance. I don't want to use it at all unless I need to, and it won't even allow me sometimes when I try as it only tries to connect through wi-fi.
So there are two related problems, and whatever settings I've tweaked it keeps doing it. I don't want to stop Facebook pings as it will affect all computers I use equally, but don't want it sucking up my paid allowance without my sayso. Is there a set of commands I can give it to filter when it connects to the internet?
If you still want to receive other messages, the simple answer is to remove the facebook apps. You can still access facebook through the phone's browser, and you'll get facebook messages when you log in. This will save not only your data allowance (assuming that you only log in via WiFi,) but also your battery. Removing the Facebook apps can increase battery life by up to 20%.
Got it, you must do it via the Facebook app itself, the phone app is overriden by it. You have to press the phone's settings button and switch off notifications on the menu. I hope it stops now.
