I regret that the measles deaths that occurred as a result of his tinkering werent pinned on him. All the deaths were avoidable

The meme that doctors were intentionally damaging children by insisting on vaccination proved remarkably resistant even tho you could show deaths were resulting from vaccination refusal

and cost money to refute - which could be better spent doing something useful ( = lost opportunity cost - )
I think in the end they had to follow up large cohorts of vaccinated and unvaccinated children - thousands of them ..... v v expensive

The co-author Prof Walker got a well deserved beating for not acting as a brake

The big thing for the americans - Wakefield went to Texas where someone paid for his healthcentre.... was not the GMC case but that the Lancet withdrew his paper latterly and admitted it was crap

PP...what is rather worrying about this charlatan, is that despite all the bad publicity about his previous activities, he has been able to fool some more people, this time Americans, into believing him again.

What is wrong with these daft parents ? All they have to do is to spend 5 mins on Google, and everything should be clear, but instead they choose to believe a discredited and struck-off doctor !

not so simple though. the learned science and medical professionals are often at odds with each other and propose this theory, that theory, and send out contradictory messages.

1. MMR is safe.
2. err, no it isn't, well not entirely, if it uses the urabe mumps strain it has been documented to cause aseptic meningitis and febrile convulsions.
1. OK we'll use MMR 2, wich is based on the Jeryl Lynn strain.
2. that's as may be, but that's been known to cause inflammatory bowel disease.

and so it goes on - what is the scientifically uninformed parent to do for the best? particularly when the politicos of the day were all saying "it's safe" whilst at the same time ensuring their own kids were having the unlicenced single jabs?
