My cat has started to drool profusely. She has been to the vet who descaled her teeth. It didnt stop the drooling. We took her back but the vet is unable to see a reason why it is happening. She is up to date with her jabs. She seems OK in herself and the vet doesn't seem too concerned saying 'some cats just drool!' As she has just started doing this in the last month or so, I'm a little concerned. Anyone any ideas as to what it might be?
what it might be (no offence) is time to get a second opinion. No animal (including humans) just starts to drool for no reason. She could have a sore mouth or a small stroke or any one of a number of other things mostly minor and fixable
She doesn't do it all of the time, it seems to happen more when she is relaxing - especially later in the day. I think for the moment I'll just keep an eye on her but it does make me curious.
Our cat is a bit of a dribbler too. He is a rescue cat so we don't know his history of course he took immediatley to my hubby and whenever he is being stroked or cuddled or even just being talked to, he drools like mad. It did not happen at first but it seems that he adores hubby and just cannot contain his excitement. Now he drools on all our frinds too... Vet says No Probs with teeth and not to worry.
Hope your puss is OK sure she is pretty normal. All cats are slightly bonkers...
Don't be alarmed but I have had cats for 20 years and one reason for sudden drooling is kidney problems. there are other reasons but I would ask the vet to check out kidney function...to be sure.
Good Luck
