Broadband Router

I currently have a 1 ethernet port router and I would like to increase the number of ports from 1 to 4, if possible. Is there some sort of adaptor that I can plug into my router which would expand the number of ports? Where could I buy such an adaptor?

I am assuming you have a broadband modem router ie phoneline in, USB port and 1 ethernet port. Simply buy a hub which is dumb and does'nt require any configuration or buy another router and connect it to the ethernet port.

Just had a thought - the PCs at work have now all gone wireless but they used to be connected through a router but I can't remember how many ports it had. Would I be able to get this and connect it to the ethernet port of my existing router and then get the extra ports needed? Would this cause any conflicts? Thanks again!!

As Simeon says you need a HUB (or a SWITCH, they are very similar). You can get one from any PC shop (PC world have them)

It looks similar to a Router but is a more simple device.

I have a router, then a single ethernet wire running to my office where I have a hub. I then plug 2 PCs into the hub and they can both get to the internet through the router.

I do not think the routers from your work would be any use, just buy a 4 port hub.

Just to let you know - I bought a Belkin 5-port switch from Currys yesterday and we are all up and running. I was amazed how easy it was - I thought I'd have to type in the different IP addresses for each PC but it was all done automatically, I'm very impressed!!
