Washer/dryers?

Do you have or have had a washer dryer? what is your experience of them? I am considering getting one but everyone I know seem to be set against them.

I wouldn't buy a washer/dryer, because if you have a couple of loads to wash, it will take a lot longer to get it done, as you will have to wait for the first load to dry, before washing the second load.

You will save a lot of time buy buying them separately (if you have the space), as you can be washing one load whilst drying another.

I`ve been using a washer/dryer for about 12 years because I didn`t have enough space in my kitchen for 2 seperate appliances.There are quite a few downsides to them. The drum doesn`t hold as much as a single tumble dryer so it will take longer and large items (duvet covers etc) tend to get a bit creased. I had a hoover one for about 10 years and the dryer would only take 3 kg. I changed it for a Hotpoint which has a much bigger drum and takes 5kg. On the whole I am happy with mine and the space where the tumble dryer was has now got a dishwasher in it. So I wouldn`t go back.

Good point wispy but I normally do one load at a time anyway, I do have room for both but my dryer broke last december, so far I have managed ok without by drying the clothes on the rads. Plus I really really want a dishwasher because I hate washing dishes with a passion so was planning to put one were the dryer use to be.
But it seems my washing machine is on its way out as well now :( so I thought a washer/dryer would solve my dilemma!

At my old home i had a washer and seperate dryer but ive since moved in with my fiancee and she has a washer/dryer. they are an absolute nightmare, as said before the biggest limitation is you cant have a load washing whilst one is drying, not a problem if your on your own i guess but a big problem if you have a familys worth of washing to do every day.

as for the dishwasher, they are a waste of time too, you have to wash the dishes by hand before you put them into the dishwasher, otherwise the drain gets blocked up

I used to have a seperate washer and dryer till my dryer went belly up. I chose a washer /dryer and now with all my heart wished I had not. It takes longer to do the wash, the clothes come out more creased, the machine stinks (Ihave had it for over a year and it is not any less smelly now than before) friends have said the smell is a common thing with washer/dryers. If you do a large wash load you have to take some out to be able to dry it hence, if you want to do a cheap overnight wash the drying has to be done during the daytime. If you have the space buy seperate or ones which will stack on top of each other.
