I think that many pregnancies still fail before the 12 week point. No one wants to have to go round telling everyone if the worst should happen.
I told my parents and all my friends as soon as I knew at 6 weeks, though. I couldn't have kept it to myself.
You could call it a superstition but it's true to say that a large number of miscarriages happen in the first few weeks and often the parents to be want to get used to the idea of their new arrival for a while first.
Is it superstition? I thought miscarriages were still most likely by far to happen in the first trimester and there's not much medically that can be done to prevent them unless it's already known that there's a higher risk factor. Many people don't want to announce their pregnancy until the high risk 14 week period is over.
Sorry, ummmm. That must have been tough. I thought I was miscarrying soon after I'd told everyone I was pregnant. It was horrible. Luckily for me it turned out alright. Sorry yours wasn't the same.
We have come far with medicine as you say, but we can't work miracles yet and reality is such that life is still very fragile. My friend miscarried last week.
