Dependent on proper care, feeding and water conditions Goldfish can live to be a ripe old age of over 50...but the average age of most of the carassius family is somewhere around 20 years if kept properly.

must have been of slow news day in london, because the metro had a picture of a 40 year old goldfish called "goldie" in it today, he was won at a fair appartently.
it was 44 actually iggy . so there !
According to the London Aquarium, the oldest goldfish was called Fred & lived to be 41.
