Why do liberals/lefties hate Britain, especially England??
Even the English ones can never have a good word to say about the country. If it's such a dump why don't they emmigrate to mother Russia or China or ... well anywhere? I mean they'd have you believe that England is the worst place in the world to live an yet they stll live here, strange, very strange!

Actually, I don't think anyone on here hates Britain - there are people who are disappointed with the way the country is changing, but most of them can't be bothered to do anything to help.

As a Scotsman, I observe that England is generally divided into the tabloid-reading right, who are proud of English national identity, and the Guardian-reading liberal left, who hate English national identity.
I am proud of my Scottish identity, so I don't see what's wrong with English people being equally proud of their identity. Not all 'liberal left' English people are anti-English. Musician Billy Bragg and black writer Andrea Levy come to mind. They are proud to be English without hating non-English people.

It's usually the tabloid-reading right (or the 'old right') that are moaning about how the UK is crap and had gone down the drain. You often find them harping on that everything was better in 'the good old days' (which invariably go totally undefined). That's just one section of the British right wing however, but easily one of the most embarassing...
The British 'left' is also quite broad but unfortunately has quite a few snot-nosed irritants who think they look clever by blindly attacking anything and everything about the country (and often rather insufferably delude themselves into thinking they're 'standing at odds' with their political 'oppressors'... Aaarrgghh!!!). Again, I think this section is more like the left wing's embarassing younger sibling.
These are, however, the two extremes. And like all extremes, they're wholly unrepresentative. I'd say the broad consensus in Britain is - while far, far from flag-salutingly proud - pretty patriotic, but not blindly or completely unswervingly so. I think that's pretty healthy.

I can't tell if your question is sarcastic or not?
I don't often see the lefties threatening to emigrate. In fact, I often read fairly passionate eulogies of what's great about this country (I'm thinking from 'lefties' like sp1814) in response to rants about how the country's government/moral standards/immigration policy/heritage/religious beliefs/legal system/cuisine/sense of pride have 'gone to the dogs'.
Or are you winding us up?

It is not the lefties who have done damage to this country it was Bush's close friend and ally Blair. More of a right wing conspiracy to topple Saddam. The lefties, if you believe in such terms, were trying to prevent a war but were prevented by Blair and the right leaning conservatives. Blair was prevented from being brought to book by his handshaking chums who are therefore equally culpable.
It's amazing how the truth is the most unpalatable.

I'd even forgotten there actually was an ABer called Mrs T at one time. Perhaps that was one of those multi-named members, but - whoever it was - I'm sure he/she was a right-winger!
