Occasionally i shell an ordinary-looking pistachio ( from a fresh packet, not more than a few days after purchase ) and the nut tastes really disgusting. Can this be dangerous ?
( Of course I spit it out and wash my mouth, but the nasty taste does linger. )
I wouldn't say so. I've done it loads of times. With any food types there could always be one that's off.
I watched a programme on how food goes off. You'd be surprised what is safe to eat. Food that needs to be avoided when it's off is anything that has gone mushy/slimy.
Ummm, many foods show no signs at all of having gone off, look at meat, it can taste and smell fine but could also kill you, especially poultry, rice is also typical, very dangerous indeed.
Ok, ummmm, your post didnt make that very clear. Bread I would throw but I would cut the mould off cheese and jam. Generally if something is out of date I throw it, drives Carakeel wild sometimes. I know I am quite particular about my food being very fresh.
I am too, Ratter. I don't mean to be but if something is out of date it suddenly tastes funny to me. All psychological. I let the others eat it though :-)
