Can I send a text from a UK mobile to a USA mobile?
6 Answers
We are trying to send a text to the US from our mobiles here. Howver, we cant appear to be able to. What are we doing wrong and can anyone give an example of a US mobile because the number has been sent to us from a relative in South Africa who may well have sent it as it appears to her, if you see what I mean, with the SA prefix and not the UK.

09 is the international access code used by the South African phone service and 1 is the dialling code for the USA.
International dialling codes (i.e. the 1 in the number) are the same throughout the world but the access code (i.e. the number you have to dial to get into the international system) varies from country to country. In the UK (and throughout most of Europe, it's 00.
So, instead of 09-1-, you need to prefix the US phone number with 00-1-.
