Oh dear. You are behinds the times. Mothers' Day is celebrated in Mother England on the third Sunday preceding Easter

Must be the time zone thingy.
Mothers' Day here was celebrated on the 6th March. Some time zone!
I've just googled out of interest, and Aussie mothers' day is on May 8th, apparently. You're a week ahead, 1ozzy. :)

Really Clover? I can stop feeling guilty about not sending mum a card now, phew.

Could you remind me next week please?

Guess the time zone just increased Jack.
Mothers' Day is May 8th. in Canada as well as in Australia: I guess we are more advanced.
The correct title, according to the Book of Common Prayer, is Mothering Sunday or Refreshment Sunday celebrated on the fourth Sunday in Lent
Thus it cannot fall after Easter. But hey, what the hell do I know? I'm only a thick Englishman.

You got a point there Jack ;-)
When did this practice start? As a kid in England in the '50s I don't think that I ever heard of it.
In the 17th century at the latest. Maids who lived out, and footmen, were allowed the day off to go and visit their mothers.
Even to this day, children who go to church will be presented with a little posy of flowers, blessed by the Vicar/priest, to present to their mothers.
It is Mother's Day here. Always on the first Sunday of May. We are preparing a BBQ for our kids and their partners and the GC. Happy Days !
