Reporting Sexual Assault

Hi all

I'm not going to go into full details but I need some advice.

My ex sexually assaulted me 3 times during our relationship, there was one time last year that I had told 2 friends about (still have the messages)

I had to call the police last week as he had threatened me and during their routine questions they asked if he had ever sexually assaulted me and I said yes and it all came out.

I now have to do a video statement with them (none of this would have come out if I wasn't asked).

My question is even though I'm going to make the statement would he still be arrested even though I don't want to press charges? He has been arrested for rape before but apparently the case was dropped on her insistence.

I just want this on record so if he does do something again then he is known.

What will happen after I give me statement?

So you were sexually assaulted because his previous girlfriend didn't want him prosecuted for rape and now you're going to do exactly the same thing. How will you feel when he rapes somebody else (because he will)? You need to have him prosecuted for the safety of all the females in your area.

I didn't say that. It's basically his word against mine even though I have messages from last year telling 2 people about the first assault.

The first person wasn't his girlfriend it was someone he cheated on his girlfriend with.

the DPP could prosecute on your evidence I think..but wait for someone like new judge or barmaid for legal advice...

Of course I'll give the police everything I can. Messages from him saying he's a bad person (not telling me why) that he's a manic depressive, that he's a compulsive liar. His confession that he was raped by a family member when he was younger. But I don't want to put myself through a lot of stress when as I said it's his word against mine (not long had a very bad miscarriage and don't want extra upset heaped on me)

I think that with criminal acts (which sexual assault is) you don’t get the choice about whether to press charges. That decision is in the hands of the CPS. You can also be summonsed to give evidence.

I'm just scared. I know when I do this he will come after me and although he ignored my pregnancy he was glad when I miscarried (and nearly died) but he has 3 other children and I really don't want to see them hurt

Also, how long after I make my video statement would he be arrested?
