Has anyone taken the time to go outside and look skywards today? It's a beautiful day here in north Wiltshire. There are clouds, but they're very high and wispy, some of them have fascinating shapes, I think they're Cirrus clouds, althought I'm no expert.

Cirrus fibratus wiltsman otherwise known as Mare's Tails. The sky in N Wales had a lovely formation of them this morning whilst we were gardening. " She who must be obeyed" and I actually sat and talked about them as being a sign of good weather for a few days at least, and I threw in the comment 'my Mother's father called them Mares Tails'.

I live in Purton, just outside of Swindon. Wiltshire is a beautiful county, especially on days like these, the one regret I have, it doesn't have a coast.

Got to leave you now, going to walk up the village to vote - before the rush starts!
Aww that's nice, everyone was right. One wrote it, the other was first to record it. And I was the latest to post it here ;-)

Here we don't seem to have specific clouds as such. Difficult to tell if there are none, or all over. I think the latter, but it must be a thin layer as the sun shines though well enough.
They are cirrus Wiltsman. They precede an approaching warm front. In my car just now it said 23 degrees so I think its arrived!
I looked at the sky this morning and there was criss cross of contrails that looked like a chequerboard! Comes from living near Heathrow I suppose.
Won't surprise anyone to know I spend hours gazing at clouds.....and I'm a member of the Cloud Appreciation Society.....they produce wonderful books such as....A Pig With Six Legs.....
Jom had one of his photos printed in their newsletter......

Shoota....I can't see your pic.... :-(

Nah, that photo was taken at night in Birmingham using a blue filter, f8, 1/25sec, and a 28mm lens.

Thank you for all your replies. As I watched the setting sun last night, I noticed a halo around it. It wasn't a full circle as it only showed up against the actual cirrus clouds which were fragmented.

Note: This web page also refers to haloes around the sun.
Ta wiltsman. I have my head in the clouds sometimes.
Togo's head is usually way above the clouds - in vacant space!

Shoota, we had that cloud yesterday, it took a long time to move from Deux Sevres to Tarn et Garonne.
Oy DT see my post Thurs 21:44. Anyway call it "Blue Sky Thinking" .
