If you came across some cash on the pavement - what would you do -

1. Hand it in to the police in due course

2. as above , but only above a certain amount ?

3. Discreetly put it in your pocket and hurry on up the road , with no intention to do as in 1 above

4. Other

I found a 100€ note on the floor in a chemist in Vienna. And no I did not hand it in, they would have pocketed it I am sure.

I'm talking about found cash, loose, no purse, no wallet, no paper bag with a name on it. no phone numbers scribbled on the bills. It's lost, untraceable, unidentifiable...That's what I'm talking about.

Baldric....no difference at all. The cash doesn't belong to anybody but the original owner. In the scenario that Nazile has outlined, if handing into a Police Station was not an option, I would have donated the money to the Dogs Trust.

I most certainly would not have "gone down the Pub and celebrated "

And that is all have to say about the matter, before this thread turns into the usual slanging match.

my grandmother found a few hundred pounds in a handbag during the war ( yes 1940 ) handed it in like the good girl guide she was - worth thousands now


at that very moment the owner whizzed in to the police station
grabbed it doubtless after establishing credentials etc
and said "your reward will be in Heaven !"
and whizzed out

Mikey, if the money only belongs to the original owner and doesn't legally or morally belong to you, how does it legally and morally belong to the Dogs' Trust? Anyway, cheers...I'm off across the field. (Hopefully I'll find a few dollars on my way.)

Found a £10 note and a £5 note on the ground once when walking round to a friend's house, I pocketed it, kept the tenner for myself and gave friend the fiver !
