I think yer gona have to take it out , i cant imagine a surgeon allowing your to keep it in as it cuases an obstruction.
Sorry red rubies, but there is no way on this Earth that I'd let you keep it in, and to be honest 40 may seem like alot, but its hardly enough to risk you airway for is it!
My sister was in the same poision about 1month ago.She had to take it out ,unfortunatly. but she was allowed to put it back in after 2 week of the op beeing done. Sorry !!

it wont close up unless you have only just had it done.

if its been a while it will have healed, so you can leave it out for a good while

I had my tonsils taken out two weeks after having my tongue pierced. The nurses were lovely to me and helped to take my bar out and then after surgery, they put it back in. If you tell them that you want to keep your piercing, they will do what they can for you. Good luck.x
You will be able to put it back in as soon as you are fully awake from the anaesthetic, the nurses will help you no problem x
I have had mine out overnight. I take mine in and out for other things like the dentist and well stuff!!
