Some Ever So Slightly Good News.

In 2008 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. No medication was prescribed. Three weeks ago I went for my biannual check up. Today I got a call from the practice nurse at my local surgery. She had taken the trouble to review all my results over the past 8 years. She told me that these showed that I was NOT diabetic; I was misdiagnosed as the diagnosis was on the basis of a non-fasting blood test instead of a fasting one. So, no more six-monthly trips to the clinic; the only thing I'll miss is the bit where the nurse gets to tickle my feet!

Isn't that good, Jackdaw....not the original diagnosis....but having it sorted.... I'm sure you'll find someone to tickle your feet..... ;-)

To be quite honest it has never really bothered me. I have not been inconvenienced, apart from having my blood tested 4 times a day when I have been in hospital. I can't even sue because I have suffered no loss or damage. What is worrying, though, is that if my condition had been otherwise and I was misdiagnosed, what would the consequences have been. We place ultimate faith in our doctors to get it right.

A couple of years ago I was told I'd had a heart attack. Last year I was told I hadn't. I do sometimes wonder about some of these health professionals, but as you say, it's better they err on the side of expecting the worst rather than missing something important.

Fantastic News JD. I really am pleased for you. A great relief. I was misdiagnosed with COPD several years ago by the 'stop smoking nurse'
Turns out I have very strong efficient lungs for my age according to the many pre-op assessments I have had over the last few years in the Respiratory Function units. :-)
