I have no idea but I was told that at any one moment there are 1000 planes in the air over Europe so I would also like to know

I would have thought more than 1000 personally.
I've heard the figure 3 million people in the air worldwide.
Then again, how much can we read into these "statistics" touted around so freely these days?
