I have been browsing the Shpock website and noticed that some sellers are selling really trivial things for 10p or 20p.

If you don't know it's a site where local people pick up from you not like Ebay where you can send things through the post.

So I wondered why people would go to all the bother of people coming round for 10p items. Are they lonely do you think?

There have been times in my life when I've been really hard up (e.g. surviving for a full week on just one bag of muesli and two pints of milk, as I had to at one time). At times like that a few extra ten pences would have been extremely welcome!!!
Do you think it could be a cover for something else?
"For sale to a good home". Things people don't want to just send to the tip, which would otherwise be the only alternative?

Motley - I hope not! Most of the stuff is kids stuff like badges, crayons books ect, hardly worth bothering with but like Chris says, if you're really hard up.....

Hypo - they could give to charity shop?

On second thoughts if I were that hard up I wouldn't have an iPad/phone. I would sell them if I was hungry.
You don't know you're born, Chico. I once had to live for a fortnight on a bag of porridge oats and NO MILK!
@jackdaw & buenchico

How come friends/family couldn't/wouldn't help out? Didn't you even think to ask?

^^^ It's called 'pride', Hypognosis. At the time my father lived a 10-minute walk away and I could have gone round to his house for a meal at any time but I simply didn't want to.

Returning to the question, if it's kids' stuff that's being offered then maybe their parents are teaching them lessons about budgeting? e.g. "No, you can't have any extra pocket money but if you can find some things for me to sell you can keep the money that I get for them"
Chico is right re 'pride'. I would sooner starve than beg.
