The same has happened to me, and seems no matter how many times you telephone the companies sending the demanding letters, they just ignore what you tell them, and next month another lot of letters turn up. Are they stupid, do they not understand english?!
Anyway, in the end I gave up and thought 'I've done enough, let them take me to court, then'. Whether it was mere coincidence or not, I don't know, but the letters then stopped!
the person has taken out all his debt at a previous address and then informed the companies of his new address which is mine ! By the looks of it he has 2 others using my address with his surname and 2 different 1st names. The utility bills have also been forwarded to me. Bailiffs turning up on my door is awful i prove who i am they leave then letters from their company still turn up. Not sure if police can help they are not using my name just the address.
I think that's what happened in my case, too.
It is illegal, using your address, name or both. It's obtaining credit/goods through fraud. The problem is though, locating the person doing it. It isn't very high on the police's lict of priorities, I guess.
It's a bu**er. You're totally innocent, and you're the one that gets all the grief and upset. The ba****ds seem able to get away with it over and over again. And, of course, we have to pay for what they've stolen, eventually.
