me and a few mates are moving into a new house soon, and need to sort out who gets which room, cuz some are alot better than others. any ideas on how we could sort it out fairly?
Deal out the appropriate number of cards after thoroughly shuffling the pack. Turn them up and highest card - aces high - gets first choice of room. If two or more are equal, deal cards only to them on the same basis. Once Choice 1 is sorted out, do the same for Choice 2, 3 etc. What could be fairer than that? (That's assuming there are no mitigarting factors...eg if one of you is in a wheelchair, it would be unkind to consign him to the attic!)
Hi Rave. Housemates usually pay a bit extra for bigger and better rooms. Say you had a 3 bedroom house for 800 per month, with one very nice king size, one standard double and one not so nice but large single room. Instead of splitting the rent evenly 3 ways, you could say that its 300 per month for the king room, 270 for the double and 230 for the single.
Years ago, as a student nurse living in a shared house, we rotated rooms every few months so that everyone had a chance to use the biggest room. Don't know if that's an option for you to discuss with your housemates or not...
