Why Is Whatsapp Rated Higher Than Viber?

Apparently Whatsapp is one if the highest downloads in the world and more popular than Viber. What is the reason for this considering both do the same thing but with Viber you can make free calls too, but you can't with Whatsapp.

I've never heard of Viber.

Viber is cool for ipod touch etc, you can make calls without a sim card.

I downloader Viber in december to enable free calls to my daughter in Australia over Christmas,a great app. I had not heard of Whatsapp.

Are they free or do you still need wifi?

They are both free but I think you have to pay for whatsapp after a year. They are also free to use on wifi but they will use up your mobile phone data usage if you use them that way. However if you have unlimited data neither will cost you anything extra to use.

I still can't work out why whatsapp is the most popular though as with viber you get calls free too.

Calls are passed hrough your router so yes you need wifi.

I believe Whatsapp allows you to plug in all your other messaging services Flobadob - so you can talk to people across various other platforms i.e. facebook, msn, skype, yahoo whatever else kids are using these days...

I found viber to be very unreliable, it would ring instead of messaging, so switched to whatsapp and although sometimes it's slow, it usually works.

and with viber the messges appear on the screen so everyone nearby can see them before they minimize.

I like Viber, but haven't tried Whatsaap yet. Intending to though. With regards to the question it's got a more ' teenage' name to it, so you'll probably find as the Ed says that's got kid appeal, and kids download and hence rate more apps than us fogeys.
