Laying Artificial Grass

Anyone done this themselves? Got an area of garden approx. 50m2 in an L shape that we want to put artificial grass on.

The plan is to remove the existing soil/grass down to a depth of 8". Then add 4" of type 1 and 4" of sharp sand. Both will be firmed with a wacker plate. A weed membrane will then be laid on top before the grass is rolled out and pinned into place.

We've been quoted £60/m2 from start to finish including the grass and boards all around the sides but that only included a 3" base of 10mm limestone.

I think we can do it for a quarter of the price and do a better job.

Any suggestions?

Artificial grass, why For Funks Sake?

Because the area is on thick clay. It floods with the lightest shower of rain and I have to mow it. THAT'S WHY

My son bought a quantity of artificial grass recently. It was stolen overnight & he and his neighbours never heard a thing. It was reported to the police but there is unlikely to be any positive outcome.
