On breakfast TV this morning it was stated that a majority of Italian people also want a referendum on EU memership along with 8 other nations in the group who are watching the UK position very closely so should we vote to leave could this be the start of the break up of the EU?

I have a friend who lives in Verona. She's lived there for over 30 years.
She tells me that most of the Italians in that region (which is a long way from Lampedusa) are absolutely sick to death of the EU and the policies it has inflicted upon Italy. Their elected government was replaced by one consisting of EU technocrats; their towns and cities are overrun with migrants (from both within and outside the EU); their cities are becoming more like Cairo than Rome; their culture is being overwhelmed; their economy is in shreds. In short, many of them (I won't say most because I don't know) are about as sick of the EU as many (hopefully most, we'll find out in two weeks) in the UK are.

N.J. //their cities are becoming more like Cairo than Rome;//
It would appear it is some time since you visited Rome, it has now become very much like Cairo, on a recent visit, the centre of the catholic universe; St Peters square and its environs, swarmed with Bangladeshis (why?) so perhaps it's more like Dhaka. :0)
