Mensa Mind Bender

Many years ago the Express published a Mensa problem which has baffled me over the years (at least 20).
A signpost has two right facing arms indicating
Aldershot 10
Southampton 30
And two left facing indicating
Swansea 26
Rugby ?
How far is it to Rugby?
I know how these usually work but I have made no headway with this one.
A good clue pointing to the logic would be great or a solution with the logic.

number = position in alphabet of 1st letter + length of name Aldershot = 1 + 9 = 10 Southampton = 19 + 11 = 30 Swansea = 19 + 7 = 26 ➜Rugby = 18 + 5 = 23
