Malaria Tablets

I'm going to India to work for a few weeks but the Doctor doesn't have an appointment for over a week. I'm not sure when I'm going but it could be next week. I know I need to take malaria tablets for a couple of weeks before I go, so can I get the without a perscription at the chemists.

When I got mine, I got them from my pharmacist without prescription, my pharmacist is in area though where people do a lot of travel in foreign parts so he had them to hand but if you're worried about what to take, try talking to your chemist or does your doctor have a nurse who may be easier to get an appointment with?

You should consult a qualified pharmacist, who will probably be as dependable as a doctor on this particular matter. (Interpret that as you will!) Be careful about the dosage recommended - some preventatives are taken daily, but Larium (one of the common tablets) is only weekly. And remember - if there are mossies around, use plentry of deterrent, and make sure you keep the air con or fan on in your room (they dislike moving air).

much better idea to go straight to your pharmacist for them. when i got my prescription i found the tesco's charged much less than boots, and even smaller local pharmacies. as i needed about 30 weeks worth the saving was quite substantial. so, shop around too after you've got the advice/prescription.

Thanks for the replies. The appointment is with the nurse and not the Doctor. I'll go to Tesco's and talk to the Chemist. Cheers

Not going until March at the earliest now so I'll hang on for the Nurse
