An excellent question to pose to our American Brothers and Sisters. This is their Achilles heel.

A Best Answer for the 1st correct overall answer - 4 questions.

1. What is the most northerly United State (out of the 50, for those of you who think there is 51 or 52 - Israel is not correct for East).

2. What is the most southerly United State?

3. What is the most westerly United State?

4. What is the most easterly United State?

Good luck

Hawaii most southerly Alaska most northerly, easterly and westerly. The state includes a chain of islands which cross the 180 degree line. The International Date Line bends round the line

This must have something to do with the tilt of the earth on its axis. I suspect the answer to 1 is NOT Alaska.
It's a bit like the fact that the most westerly capital in Britain is Edinburgh, even though most people would say Cardiff.
Reminds me of the Top Gear episode when Clarkson claimed to go from the most westerly point to most easterly in a race against sunrise - excep they forgot that the UK is tilted so Scotland is further west from the point he started from!

Not correct logic, Jackdaw - wrong
My guesses.

1 Maine
2 California
3 Hawaii
4 Louisianna
Umph!

Found this:-

Most Northern Point: Angle, Minnesota, at 49º 23'N

Most Southern Point: East Cape, Florida, at 25º 7'N

Most Eastern Point: West Quoddy Head, Maine, at 66º 57'W

Most Western Point: Cape Alva, Washington, at 124º 44'W
Alaska
Hawaii
Alaska
Florida
That's my guess.
Just a stab in the dark from me. Anyway, there is no such thing as a United State, only the United States. All the states are just states.
Hawaii most southerly

Alaska most northerly, easterly and westerly. The state includes a chain of islands which cross the 180 degree line. The International Date Line bends round the line

I give up. I must be a Yank.

sorry there, Famous gets it....some of the Kodiak Islands are across the 180 degree line, converse to Greenwich, into the Eastern Hemisphere.....not over the Int'l Date Line but that is another matter......

Well done, one BA - good money to be had with this one - I once had $450 in a pool at a conference dinner on it, keep cool on Q4!.......money went to charity of my nomination at the time.

Tilly, the Brits are far better at answering this than their American counterparts, the study of geography and history largely passed over at Hig School, Philistines that they are.
Question Author
So yes, Alaska, Hawaii (creative answer awards that I have seen Mexico and Puerto Rico), Alaska (Israel and Bermuda on this) and Alaska.....(someone did try Vietnam).
I'm such a Philistine...! :-(
