yes the tree is now just a stump - i have made 36 wall plaques, chopped enough logs to keep the chimnea burning til the next century, and made 420 garden ornaments for you very imaginative ABers ! (slight exaggeration there!)
anyway, what i want to know now is what we should do with the stump (clean suggestions only please)
somone told us that the surface should be treated to stop it oozing water, as it is now, and the it should be covered with a black bin liner for a few weeks. anyone know the answer please ?????
thankyou

Sorry, no suggestions for the remaining stump, but I'm sure you won't be disappointed, and someone will come up with a tried and tested remedy.
Boy!! You must have been working like beavers to make all those ornaments that fast.
Birch does have a tendancy to bleed a lot of sap especially in the early spring, as the sap rises, in fact some folks tap into it to make birch sap wine. I think covering the stump with plastic sheetingis a good idea if you want to use chemicals to treat the stump, this will prevent the rain from diluting it and splashing it out of the holes you have drilled to insert the stump treatment (I've used 'Amicide' and found that works well)
