Mystery is how coffee was discoverd but favourite one is a goatherd saw his goats leaping about after eating coffee beans and tried them himself - and disovered coffee. Not sure I believe that one, but it is the most often quoted origin.
And useless fact - Tia Maria liqueur is flavoured by the white skin that covers the coffee bean, not the bean itself.
