I know it doesn't work like this but these are special times, couldn't we elect a Brexit Prime Minister by a national vote ?

On a purely technical point the job that's being contested is that of Conservative Party leader, so it's an internal matter. Just so happens that he/ she is also the Prime Minister. The other direction is then that the Tories elect a new leader, and that leader then calls an early election to secure a mandate for their particular Brexit stance. Owing to the Fixed Term Parliament Act 2011 this would require consent of the Commons, though, and I'm not sure how likely this is to be obtained.
"The other direction is then that the Tories elect a new leader, and that leader then calls an early election to secure a mandate for their particular Brexit stance." - the mandate, the strongest there has ever been, was given last thursday, why would an incoming PM call a GE, even if he/she could, which they cannot, with 4 years of this parliament left to go?
